Spring is upon us and baseball practices have begun in Manitoba!
Approximately 170 people walked through the doors at Chalmers Community Centre. Some knew they were supporting the Elmwood Giants baseball program and others came for the sports cards.
In case you missed it, here are a few pictures from the fundraising card show at Chalmers Community Centre on Saturday, May 5th, 2018.
All set up and ready to play Pack Wars 2.0.
Some of the prizes you see here were donated by Upper Deck. If you bought a pack of MVP or O-Pee-Chee hockey cards and played Pack Wars with us, you were eligible to win a Patrik Laine poster, or an autographed Jack Roslovic baseball cap or puck.
Upper Deck also donated a bunch of door prizes that were handed out to everyone who came.
Scott had set up his cards beside me. He had a lot of Young Guns, including a Nolan Patrick rookie.
Manitoba artist Sebastien Chabauty of Cool Ice Images was there with his artwork.
It didn’t take very long for the gym to fill up after the doors opened at 10 am. Once again, the Chalmers Community Centre proved to be a great location for the show.
Winners in Pack Wars!
Ace chose a Jack Roslovic autographed puck donated by Upper Deck, while Katie agreed to model the Roslovic baseball cap for me.
An interesting side note: right after this picture was taken, Katie was approached by a man wearing a Vegas Golden Knights sweater who asked her to try on a San Jose Sharks jersey. His girlfriend is a Sharks fan and Katie was about the same size.
Another Pack Wars winner!
The crowd was still a healthy size at 2 pm.
But by 3 pm, very few folks aside from the vendors remained in the gym. People behind tables got up and talked to their fellow collectors and made some trades and deals in the final hour of the show.
I took a walk around and found a beautiful Bobby Hull patch.
1 of 99 autographed Wayne Gretzky framed pictures.
A lot of graded Young Guns rookie cards among others.
And these Hellebuyck and Scheifele hockey card/puck combos.
If you missed the show, the good news it that there’s another show in 4 weeks time.
Saturday, June 2nd
10 am to 4 pm
Chalmers Community Centre, 480 Chalmers Avenue
